Adriana Francesca Lima (born June 12, 1981) is a Brazilian model best known as a Victoria's Secret Angel since 2000 and a spokesmodel for Maybelline cosmetics from 2003 to 2009. At age 15, Lima finished first place in Ford's "Supermodel of Brazil" competition and took second place the following year in the Ford "Supermodel of the World" competition before signing with Elite Model Management in New York City.

Lima never thought about being a model, although she had won many beauty pageants in elementary school. However, she had a friend at school who wanted to enter a modeling contest and didn't want to enter alone, so Lima entered with her. Both sent in pictures, and the contest sponsor soon asked Lima to come out for the competition. Soon after, at the age of 15, she entered and finished in first place in Ford's "Supermodel of Brazil" model search. She subsequently entered the 1996 Ford "Supermodel of the World" contest and finished in second place. Three years later, Lima moved to New York City and signed with Elite Model Management. After acquiring representation, Lima's modeling portfolio quickly began to expand, and she appeared in numerous international editions of Vogue and Marie Claire. As a runway model, she has walked the catwalks for designers such as Vera Wang, Christian Lacroix, Emanuel Ungaro, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Ralph Lauren and Valentino, among others. Lima became a guess girl in 2000, appearing in that year's fall ad campaign. She also appeared in the book A Second Decade of Guess? Images.

Lima continued to build upon her portfolio, doing more print work for Maybelline, for whom she worked as a spokesmodel from 2003 until 2009, the same year she appeared in the company's first calendar, a limited edition run also featuring Kemp Muhl, Jessica White, Julia Stegner, and Anna Wang. Lima has also worked for notable fashion brands bebe, Mossimo, Armani, Bulgari, De Beers, FCUK, Intimissimi, Keds, Swatch, Versace, and BCBG. She also appeared on the covers and in the editorials of other fashion magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, ELLE, GQ, Arena, Cosmopolitan, and Esquire. Her April 2006 GQ cover was the highest-selling issue that magazine for the year, while her April 2008 cover brought a record number of hits to the magazine's website. She also appeared in the 2005 Pirelli Calendar and became the face of Italy's cell phone carrier, Telecom Italia Mobile, a move that earned her the nickname, "the Catherine Zeta-Jones of Italy."

In 2006, Sao Paulo Fashion Week released a calendar featuring twenty-five Brazilian models, including Lima. The calendar was accompanied by a movie containing interviews with the models, which was broadcasted at GNT in Brazil and then hit the shelves as a DVD.

In February 2008, she was featured on the cover of Esquire, re-creating the classic 1966 Angie Dickinson cover on Esquire's 75th anniversary along with fellow Victoria's Secret Angels Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, Izabel Goulart and Selita Ebanks. She appeared only in shoes, diamonds and gloves for the November 2007 issue of Vanity Fair celebrating 20 years of supermodels with her fellow Angels. In February 2008, she was chosen to be the face of Mexico's Liverpool department store chain and launched the partnership with a press conference, runway show, and summer campaign. Lima returned to the high fashion runway in 2009, walking for Givenchy. That same year, after visiting Turkey, Lima signed a contract with Doritos to appear in print campaigns and commercials which began airing in Turkey in April. She is also one of the faces of Givenchy for the Fall/Winter 2009 season, alongside Mariacarla Boscono and Iris Strubegger.

In 2006, Lima ranked as the fifth highest paid supermodel. In 2007 and 2008, she ranked as the world's fourth highest paid supermodel by Forbes Magazine.

==Victoria's Secret==
Lima is probably best known for her work with Victoria's Secret. Her first fashion show for the company came in 1999, and since being contracted as an Angel in 2000, she has appeared on subsequent shows ever since, opening the show in 2003, 2007, and 2008, in which she also closed the opening segment. Lima has appeared on several television ads for the brand, including the praised and criticized "Angel in Venice" commercial of 2003 with Bob Dylan and her solo Victoria's Secret's Super Bowl XLII ad, the single most-seen ad of the game, watched by 103.7 million viewers. 2008 continued for Lima with hosting the What Is Sexy? program for the E! Entertainment Network and a July tour for the BioFit Uplift Bra launch, with stops in Long Island, Boston, and Miami Beach. She was also featured in November's Miracle Bra relaunch. Topping the year off, Lima wore the "Fantasy Bra" for the 2008 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. In 2009, Lima launched the company's new makeup line, "Christian Siriano for VS Makeup."

==Acting==
Lima's first acting role was the wife, alongside Mickey Rourke and Forest Whitaker, in The Follow (2001), a short film in BMW's series The Hire, starring Clive Owen. She also appeared with her fellow Angels in a guest spot playing herself in the series How I Met Your Mother in November 2007.

In 2008, Lima appeared on the American television series Ugly Betty, where she played herself and made friends with the series' title character, played by America Ferrera. According to her publicist, Liza Anderson, "Adriana has always been a huge fan of Ugly Betty and is thrilled for the opportunity to make a guest star appearance."

==Reception==
Since her rise to fame, Lima is often cited by popular media as one of the world's sexiest women. Lima was listed in the 2005 Forbes' edition of The World's Best-Paid Celebrities Under 25. Also, she ranked No.99th in the 2006 Forbes' edition of The Celebrity 100 (Forbes' Highest Paid and Powerful Celebrities in the World). Lima was chosen to be a part of People magazine's 100 most beautiful people in the world list, sharing that space with the Angels, with whom she also received a star on the Hollywood "Walk of Fame" prior to the 2007 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. That same year, she ranked 7th on FHM's "100 Sexiest Women 2007" list and was awarded as the "Hottest Girl on the Planet" at the first Spike TV Guys' Choice Awards, although the category was not mentioned in the actual broadcast. Lima was also voted on the Maxim "Hot 100" 2007 at the #53 spot. She was voted #1 as the Most Desirable Woman in 2005 by visitors of the men's lifestyle website, Askmen.com (she placed 4th in 2006 and 2007, 10th in 2008, and 19th in 2009). Lima is also listed in the 2009 Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest model on Forbes' Celebrity 100 List. As of November 2008, Models.com featured her at No.1 on the list of the Sexiest Models today. In 2009, she was voted sixth in "FHM's Sexiest Women In The World".

In addition to her native Portuguese, Lima speaks English, French, and a bit of Italian. Lima was shy around boys when she was younger, not receiving her first kiss until she was 17 years old. Afterward, the boy went directly to her mother to ask if he could marry her. She is a devout Catholic who attends church every Sunday. In April 2006, she told GQ that she was a virgin. "Sex is for after marriage," she explained. "They  have to respect that this is my choice. If there's no respect, that means they don't want me." Staying true to her religious roots, she is known for taking a Bible backstage to read.

She has been romantically linked to musician/singer Lenny Kravitz and Prince Wenzeslaus of Liechtenstein. In 2009 she married Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric'; they wed in a private civil ceremony in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on Valentines Day. The couple originally planned on a large wedding in Salvador in June 2009, but the couple decided to opt for a wedding in each of their hometowns; both are scheduled to take place at the end of 2009.

Lima and Jaric' are reportedly expecting their first child together in December 2009. Lima's representative told People magazine: "Adriana and Marko are overjoyed that they are expecting their first child together and are excited to share the happy news and start their family together." She has also recently applied for Serbian citizenship in order to promote a positive image of Serbia abroad.

==Charity==
Lima does charitable work helping with an orphanage, "Caminhos da Luz" (Ways of Light), located in her hometown. She helps with construction to expand the orphanage, and buys clothes for poor children in Salvador, Bahia. She appeared on Var Yok musun, the Turkish version of Deal or No Deal, where her prize money went to a hospital in Istanbul for children fighting leukemia.

Each member of team Fashionista has a very distinct personal style, but one thing that we can all agree on when it comes to shopping is how freaking good the collections at Club Monaco have been lately. (Cheryl dug into this in-depth just last month.) When I popped in to my local store during Memorial Day Weekend, it took great restraint to not scoop up every white lace dress and silk jumpsuit in my path — but this floor-length slip dress has been on my mind since I tried it on. It has the most flattering shape, with high slits up the sides to show a little leg, a peek-a-boo cutout in the back and elastic around the waist to cinch you in. I also love its thin straps and racerback cut, keeping it from looking too preppy. Plus, the bohemian, geometric print in pretty shades of pink and red is right up my alley.

Unfortunately, since it's mostly white, I won't be able to wear it to any of the (many) weddings I have coming up, but if you invite me to any other semi-dressy function this summer, I'll likely show up wearing this.

Brynn maxi dress, $279, available at Club Monaco.

Taylor Swift Tops Maxim's 2015 Hot List

Taylor Swift Tops Maxim's 2015 Hot List: It doesn't get any hotter than Taylor Swift, according to Maxim.

The 25-year-old superstar was named No.1 on the magazine's annual Hot List, and appears as the covergirl for its June issue.

This is Swift's first time appearing on the cover of a men's magazine, and if it's a pairing that surprises you, the singer's participation might have something to do with the arrival of Maxim's new editor-in-chief Kate Lanphear, who has set out to rebrand the magazine that's best known for photos of scantily clad celebrities.

So when your latest album has already sold more than 4.6 million copies and you've been nominated for practically every award out there, just how does it feel to be named No.1 on Maxim's Hot List?

Swift told the magazine it's an "incredible compliment."

"This year has been my favorite year of my life so far. I got to make an album exactly the way I wanted to make it. I got to put it out exactly the way I dreamed of putting it out. Every one of these whims and ideas came to fruition. The videos -- I'm proud of those, I'm proud of the tour. I'm proud of the way this has all happened," she explained. "In the midst of all that, this is really nice. it really feels like a wonderful celebration of my favorite year."

Gwyneth Paltrow Says She Feels 'More Comfortable' In A Bikini Now Than Ever Before

Gwyneth Paltrow Says She Feels 'More Comfortable' In A Bikini Now Than Ever Before: Gwyneth Paltrow's guide to a happy, healthy life is a mantra anyone can get behind: "I believe, as cheesy as it sounds, in exercise, laughing, having sex, being yourself,” the actress told Women's Health magazine.

The 42-year-old lifestyle website founder poses on the cover of the magazine's June issue in a bikini bottom and a cutoff T-shirt. "I feel way more comfortable in a bathing suit now than I did 20 years ago,” Paltrow told the magazine.

The "Mortdecai" actress also explained her daily routine, which consists of a cup of coffee, an hour of dance cardio, a salad with grilled chicken for lunch and whatever she wants for dinner. But she also knows how to indulge when the time is right. While on an airplane with some turbulence recently, Paltrow decided to opt for some day drinking. "I was like, ‘F--k this,'" she told the magazine, "I had a Bloody Mary in the middle of the day." Check out her cover photo below.

Bikini'd Jessica Alba Is The Picture Of Summer In Shape Magazine

Bikini'd Jessica Alba Is The Picture Of Summer In Shape Magazine: Jessica Alba looks like the picture of summer in Shape magazine's latest issue.

The Honest Company founder and actress appears on the June 2015 cover of Shape, and in an array of bright swimsuits for the editorial. Alba, 34, admitted that "working out sucks," but she manages to stay motivated by taking classes surrounded by other people.

“I attribute my athletic body to the martial arts, gymnastics, dance and strength training I did while filming 'Dark Angel,'" she said of her action-packed TV series, which ran from 2000 to 2002. "That’s made me strong and really set the bar.”

Alba said that becoming a mother changed her self-image for the better.

“I wasn’t truly confident about my body until I had my daughters, Honor, 7, and Haven, 3," she said. "I felt more comfortable in my own skin after they were born. Plus, if I want them to be happy with their bodies, I need to walk the walk.”

The Evolution Of Teen Sexuality In Hollywood, From Britney To Miley

The Evolution Of Teen Sexuality In Hollywood, From Britney To Miley:

lQFHpFt6Z6dn1YkjQwC5_j5cCcWEmqt-CoYG4klA4j4
In retrospect, the video for Mandy Moore’s first single, “Candy,” doesn’t seem particularly controversial: The camera pans over a generic suburban neighborhood—an ice cream truck, kids riding bikes, a young girl on a swing — before entering the then-fifteen-year-old singer’s bedroom through the window, like a kidnapper. But the most salacious part is the cartoonishly voluptuous way Moore mouths the song’s lyrics, which are rife with what can only be called single entendres, including the chant of the opening line: “Give it to me.”

Nevertheless, it felt suggestive enough back in 1999 that my friend Sean, upon first seeing it, turned to me and said, “There is something really, really weird going on in our culture right now.” At the time, we were only a couple of years past adolescence ourselves, but, I instantly understood what he meant. The thing that’s so disturbing about that clip — and about the video for Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time,” released eight months prior — is that it highlights the subjects’ youth, making it an integral part of their purported comeliness (at least, to one segment of the audience: adult men).

Of course, even then, this wasn’t exactly a new trick. What’s probably best known, albeit reductively, as the Lolita thing — after Vladimir Nabokov’s brutal 1955 novel — has been around for ages. But, the phenomenon did seem to be reaching a fever pitch in the late 1990s. As the writer Steven Daly says of Spears’s infamous first Rolling Stone cover, “I do think, in a way, that a line was crossed. The genie was out of the bottle.” Daly wrote the story that accompanied David LaChapelle’s remarkably prurient pictures in the music magazine’s April 15, 1999 issue, although he didn’t actually see the images — which included a shot of the singer pushing a little girl’s pink bicycle, dressed in a shiny pink halter, and a pair of white booty shorts that said “BABY” in rhinestones on the butt — until the issue hit newsstands. If he had, he says, he would have addressed them. Instead, he opened his story by quoting Spears as she strenuously denied that there was anything sexual going on in her debut video; it comes off, in context, as a little disingenuous. But Daly isn’t sure that it was. He visited Spears in her Kentwood, Louisiana home a few days before the photographer and his team descended upon the town, and he says that when she broached the topic of the shoot, her ideas were notably old-fashioned.

“She had a whole thing in her mind, involving this neighbor lady’s antique furniture. She was thinking porch, lace, rocking chair, Laura Ashley.” Instead, she ended up lying on fuchsia satin sheets in a black push-up bra, clutching a Teletubby. (In a subsequent interview with Rolling Stone, LaChapelle confirmed, quite shamelessly, that there was at least a little coercion involved: “I said to her, ‘You don’t want to be buttoned up, like Debbie Gibson. Let’s push it further…”) This would be nothing more than an interesting anecdote were those pictures not, as Daly says, “literal ground zero for what you’re talking about.”

Prior to the teen pop boom of the late 1990s, mass media portrayals of adolescent sexuality often teetered between the implicit and the explicit: During the Beach Party era, for example, Annette Funicello’s persona was buxom, but not bawdy; two decades later, fifteen-year-old Brooke Shields’ come-on to her much-older audience was clear to pretty much everyone (except, she’s claimed, herself). When the images tipped too far towards the graphic, hand-wringing, if not full-on outrage, ensued…except in the countless cases in which it didn’t. Often, the general public was unaware of the youth of the girls photographed for ads like Shields’, particularly if they were models, but there may have been other factors, too: I recall very little concern over the perceived purity of the members of Destiny’s Child during the period when people were regularly working themselves into a lather over Britney, Christina, et al, despite the fact that Beyoncé and Kelly were precisely the same ages.

But today, things have shifted. Subsequent teen stars, like Miley Cyrus, grew up observing Britney and her ilk, on MTV, sure, but also on the Internet. When they decide to go go blue, if they do, it reads as a calculated attempt to appear grown-up; overt, intentional signifiers of their immaturity, like knee-socks, are largely absent, even if everyone in the audience knows exactly how old they aren’t. The schoolgirl fantasy has been jettisoned in favor of the schoolgirl’s fantasy of adulthood. (Whether or not this constitutes an improvement is a matter of opinion.)

Jenna Lamia, an actress/screenwriter who worked on the 2008 reboot of 90210, confirms that the kinds of stories told about teenagers on television and in film have likewise “changed drastically.” On the original Beverly Hills, 90210, she says, “there were storylines about, like, Brenda going out with a college guy while she was in high school.” (And, even that seemed scandalous when compared to the standards of previous eras…the raciest The Brady Bunch got was when Marcia developed a crush on her dentist.) On the new version, conceived in the wake of The O.C. and Gossip Girl, “It was: Of course they were drinking, doing drugs, and having sex. And it’s even more pronounced on Awkward,” she adds, referring to her current MTV show.

4OXpPv8tHfEtiNHDG_b5jxvSa_10jVouNJ64UVmPTx0

“Sometimes we have to check ourselves in the writers’ room because we’ll completely project our mid-30s lives onto these kids. We’ll write a scene where they’re waking up in bed together, and then we’ll be like, ‘Wait, they’re in high school. What bed are they in?’”

It’s tempting to look back across the decades in the hopes of identifying a “better” time, but my survey of this phenomenon seems to indicate, at least to me, that the current moment isn’t much worse than any other recent era. While it might be nice if teens could chose from a few more genuinely good shows and movies that reflected something closer to their actual experiences — like the dearly departed series Friday Night Lights — I doubt that seeing a more “advanced” version of teenage life is leaving them any worse off than the millions of kids who, two decades ago, tuned in for the original 90210 and then stayed for its utterly twisted spin-off, Melrose Place. At least today, teenage stars are perhaps a bit less likely to be unknowingly offered up as sexual objects to adult men. As Daly says of Britney, “She was just a little girl in a rural area, completely square, completely clueless. There’s nobody like that left.”
